Pokémon’s Unnatural Natural History

Here’s a piece I wrote about last summer’s Pokémon Go phenomenon. I wanted to address the game craze in the context of material and ideas I teach in my Environmental Literature and Natural History courses. Thanks to @BoomCalifornia for the opportunity!

 

First and only first

I spent most of my time in Baja being last to the party when it came to making observations. My companions are astonishing observers of birds and just about everything else. So I will boast here that my snap of a Sylvan Hairstreak blue #butterfly is the first Mexican record of the tiny beast on iNaturalist.
